How will you improve my document?

Your proofreader will make corrections and suggestions to improve two key areas: writing mechanics and writing style. You will also get useful comments on how to improve the overall strength of your document, and things to watch out for in your writing going forward.

Our proofreaders commonly make corrections and suggestions pertaining to:

  • Spelling errors and typos
  • Grammar mistakes (e.g. sentence fragments, subject-verb agreement)
  • Punctuation errors (e.g. comma splices, incorrect semi-colon use, run-on sentences)
  • Colloquial language
  • Incorrect use of the passive voice
  • Improper use of personal pronouns
  • Improper use of capitals, bold, italics, and underlining
  • Redundancies and repetition
  • Word choice
  • Internal correctness and consistency
  • Awkward sentence and paragraph structure

Will you make sure my references are properly formatted? What citation styles do you support?

Yes! In-text citations are included as part of our regular proofreading services. If your sources are indicated in brackets in the body of your text, we'll check to make sure they conform to your preferred style.

If you need help with your bibliography or citation footnotes, we can do that too. We also offer a bibliography service to ensure that your references are accurate and complete.

We support APA, ASA, Chicago, Harvard, McGill Legal, MLA, Turabian, and Vancouver styles. Contact us if you need formatting for a different style and we'll do our best to make it happen.

Is having your essay or thesis professionally edited cheating? Will I get in trouble for plagiarism if I use your proofreading service?

No! It is definitely not cheating to have your work edited by professional proofreaders. In fact, many professors recommend that their students have their work edited before they hand it in.

We will not make any changes to your content or arguments. We will just make sure your work is free from mistakes by checking your grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, and other technical problems that can distract your reader.

We do not write on behalf of our clients! We're here to help you communicate your own ideas clearly and effecively.

Who will proofread my document?

All of our proofreaders are English-first-language professionals with (at least) Master's degrees in their fields. Our proofreaders have experience editing assignments, essays, dissertations, thesis projects, and all kinds of academic work for students at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels. They are all experienced writers who have produced countless pieces of academic and non-academic writing themselves.

Once you start working with a proofreader, we'll do our best to make sure that he or she edits every document you submit. This will allow you to build a relationship with your proofreader, which means you get more personalized support. If your proofreader is not available, his or her direct supervising editor will work on your document.

If I submit my document in multiple sections, will I work with the same proofreader?

Yes! We try to make sure that you work with the same proofreader every time you submit a document. We are especially attentive to this in cases where a document is being submitted in multiple sections.

You may want to let us know in advance if you plan to submit in sections so we can be sure your proofreader is available. You can contact us directly or leave a comment for your proofreader when you upload your document.

Is your proofreading done by human beings or by software/algorithms, robots, trained monkeys, etc.?

All of our editing services are provided by real living and breathing (human) proofreaders with tons of expertise and experience. Technology is great, but algorithms simply can't catch all your errors, and definitely can't provide you with the personalized feedback you need to improve your writing and your grades.

What if I have questions about my proofread document?

No problem—you can email your proofreader directly with any questions you have about your proofread document. We will respond as quickly as possible, usually within just a few hours. You can also pose your questions to the Editor-in-Chief by email, or by sending us a message on Facebook or Twitter.
